Greatest Minds in STEM

July 15, 2021

World Brain Day is July 22, 2021. To celebrate, we'll be featuring content that highlights some of the greatest minds in STEM. We'll explore related STEM careers and allow students to get their STEM brains thinking with some exciting activities.

Activities for the Classroom

Artificial Intelligence

Students explore the concept of artificial intelligence (AI) and the way in which it affects their daily lives. After researching the impact of AI on one career area, they will debate its benefits and risks. They will ultimately apply what they have learned to craft their own opinion on the role of AI in today’s society.

Machine Learning

Our Virtual Selves

Students will use the skills of an Artificial Intelligence Research Scientist to help solve a problem in any field of their choosing. They will examine issues in their chosen industry and explore how AI and machine learning could be used to optimize new solutions.

Our Virtual Selves

Students are reminded of the importance of individual citizenship in sustaining a healthy community, including in the digital world. They will collaborate and brainstorm to create a digital citizen “passport” that helps reinforce the need to be kind and responsible members of our community.

Family Activities

Bring the diverse world of STEM to life for elementary, middle, and high school students using a wide variety of immersive learning explorations. These easy-to-use activities allow STEM professionals to convert real-world expertise into meaningful educational experiences.

Cobot/Human Collaboration

Learn how robots can be used as a tool for creating innovative solutions in everyday human life. Students will explore the possibilities of cobots, then design a unique collaborative task involving humans and cobots working together.

Learning like Machines

Artificial Intelligence is profoundly important to the development of all areas of STEM. Guide students through a valuable exploration with the concept of machine learning, which enables students to prepare, test, and optimize their own data sort.

Career Profiles to Get Thinking about STEM

AI Researcher

Senior Principal Researchers have an adept understanding of advanced Artificial Intelligence technologies, which they utilize to envision the next world-changing application of AI and figure out how to bring it to life. They also think deeply about the ethics of AI’s relationship to people and society.

Public Outreach/Communications

AI Researcher

Public outreach and communications professionals are the voice of organizations and companies. Public outreach and communication professionals who work for a STEM organization may educate people about a pressing topic, alert the public about a recent discovery, or promote awareness of their organization.

Program Manager

Program Managers always know how to get things done on time by being highly organized, collaborative, and leadership-oriented professionals. They are as flexible as they are productive, analyzing tasks and identifying steps and resources required to bring complicated projects to fruition.

Operations Supervisor

Operations Supervisors use strong communication skills in order to collect data from staff which they use to analyze and report on the overall efficacy of the field of supervision. They have a great attention- to-detail that allows them to find solutions to both simple and complex problems, using innovative designs.

Process Engineer

Process Engineers are leadership-oriented professionals who combine business management skills with knowledge of multiple fields of science and mathematics, including Chemistry, Thermodynamics, and Physics. They design systems that help factories and plants maximize the efficient production of goods.

Cost Controller

Cost Controllers analyze the relationship between how well a project is progressing, and how much is being spent on that project. Working directly on the job site allows them to communicate and collaborate closely with the rest of the Project Management team.
