Students and Families Around the World Now Empowered to Understand the Science Behind Social Distancing from the Palm of Their Hands

Silver Spring, Md. (Monday, March 30, 2020) – To help students of all ages understand social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Discovery Education and Afterschool Alliance today announced the launch of a new application for iOS products called Social Distancing Trainer. This new app, available now at no cost in the Apple App store here, brings important educational information about safe and healthy social distancing to students and teachers around the globe through the power of augmented reality. Discovery Education is the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms.

Developed by Discovery Education, creators of dynamic, award-winning K-12 digital resources such as Discovery Education Experience and the Discovery Education Techbook series, the Social Distancing Trainer offers educators a hands-on way to virtually engage students in the importance of social distancing. Complete with timely information about the health crisis, the Social Distancing Trainer empowers classroom discussions with real-time tools and provides a virtual understanding of what safe distance looks by leveraging augmented reality. While in the application, users can also access a wealth of resources about COVID-19 from trusted sources such as the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control, the United Kingdom’s National Health Service, and more.

The Social Distancing Trainer by Discovery Education can be found in the App Store here and will soon be available for Android products via Google Play.

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Discovery Education is offering schools and school systems not currently using the company’s digital services free access to Discovery Education Experience. Schools accepting this offer will have access to Discovery Education’s dynamic K-12 learning platform and its ready-to-use digital lesson plans, activities, and standards-aligned resources through the remainder of the school year. In addition, Discovery Education is offering a suite of no cost resources for parents and caregivers called Daily DE that can be used at home.
